Ingredient by ingredient

An amino acid, and one of the most abundant found in muscle tissue. We include a full gram of pharmaceutical-grade taurine per stick. It is stated here as an ingredient at its amount — nothing more is claimed for it, because no health claim for taurine is authorised in the UK.

Unrefined rock salt, milled fine. It contributes 425mg of sodium and 653mg of chloride per stick, along with the trace minerals naturally present in the seam it is cut from.

Trisodium citrate. A second sodium source chosen for how readily it dissolves and how gently it sits. It also buffers the citric acid, which is what stops the drink tasting sharp or briny.

Citrate form rather than chloride, which avoids the metallic edge potassium chloride can carry. At 10% NRV it sits below the level UK law requires before a health claim may be stated, so we state none.

Considerably more soluble than magnesium oxide, the cheaper form used in a lot of sticks. At 27% NRV this is the one nutrient here present at a level that authorises health claims.

Steviol glycosides from stevia leaf provide the sweetness, so there is no added sugar. Natural flavourings, and no added colour in either flavour. Citric acid balances the taste and silicon dioxide stops the powder caking. The full flavour declaration will be published at launch.
What we are allowed to say
UK law authorises these only when the nutrient is present above 15% of its reference value. Our magnesium is at 27%.

A note on what we claim
Food supplements in the UK are tightly regulated, and rightly so. Only a small set of health claims are authorised, and each is tied to a specific nutrient at a specific level. Taurine has none, so you will not find us attaching one to it. Our potassium sits below the threshold, so it carries none either.
What we will do is publish the formula in full and let you judge it. If you want to know whether something suits you, that conversation belongs with your GP or pharmacist rather than with a brand.
